Ilaria Alpi Television Journalist Award


CALL FOR ENTRIES 2010

The competition is addressed to articles and investigative television reports covering issues of social and civil interest (i.e. solidarity, non-violence, justice, human rights, and employment). The reports will be evaluated according to the content of the information supplied. The lack of advanced technology involved will not penalize the final evaluation of the competition.

The Ilaria Alpi Television Journalist Award is divided into the following sections:

Best Italian Report Award

Reserved for:

  • press reports (reports and investigations) that were broadcast on national television networks, unencrypted digital terrestrial channels, digital terrestrial channels, satellite TV and the Web (online newspapers only). Duration must be less than 15 minutes. The award amounts to Euro 1,500.
  • press reports (reports and investigations) that were broadcast on national television networks, unencrypted digital terrestrial channels, digital terrestrial channels, satellite TV and the Web (online newspapers only). Duration must be more than 15 minutes. The award amounts to Euro 2,500.

Best International Report Award

Reserved for:

Ppress reports (reports and investigations) that were broadcast on national and international television networks (foreign press networks only).  TV press offices and journalists can submit up to three reports to the Award Secretary Office.

The videos must be in their original language and subtitled in English and their duration may be from 8 to 60 minutes. The registration form must be accompanied by a brief synopsis and a list of  the dialogues in English. The Best International Report Award amounts to Euro 2,500.

 

International Miran Hrovatin Award:

TV press offices, cameramen and video journalists can submit their reports to the Award Secretary Office. Reports will be evaluated on the images shown. The reports that participate in the other sections also compete for the Miran Hrovatin Award if the cameramen is explicitly indicated. The International Miran Hrovatin Award amounts to Euro 2,000.

Best TV News Report Award

Reserved for

TV news reports broadcast on national TV press networks. Each author can submit up to three reports to the Award Secretary Office. The Best TV News Report Award amounts to Euro 1,000.

Best Regional and Local TV Report Award

Reserved for:

TV reports that were broadcast on regional and local networks. The award amounts to Euro 1,500.

The finalists will be selected by the jury chaired by Italo Moretti and including Luca Ajroldi, Alessandro Banfi, Gerardo Bombonato, Piero Corsini, Andrea Iervolino, Giovanna Lio, Paolo Meucci, Roberto Morrione, Paola Palombaro, Giampaolo Penco, Sandro Provvisionato, Roberto Scardova, Claudio Speranza, Romano Tamberlich, Maurizio Torrealta, Andrea Vianello.

The winners will be selected by the abovementioned jury including also Giancarlo De Cataldo (writer), Concita De Gregorio (journalist), Wilma Labate (film director), Enrico Menduni (university teacher), Chiara Nielsen (journalist), Francesco Zizola (photographer)

The Production Award

Reserved for:

Press reports (reports and investigations) in Italian that have never been broadcast. Duration may be from 30 to 50 minutes. The authors must be freelancers or journalists that are not employees of national TV networks.

The jury of this award is made up of Italo Moretti, Gerardo Bombonato, Antonio Di Bella, Enrico Menduni, Corradino Mineo, Roberto Natale. The Production Award consists in the broadcasting of the winning work by Rai News 24 and Rai Tre subject to the purchasing of television rights worth Euro 10,000.

The Youth Award

Reserved for:

already broadcast press reports made by journalists under the age of 33.

Registration is not necessary as participants under 33 automatically compete for the award.

The jury of this Award is made up of university students. The Youth Award amounts to Euro 1,000.

The Critics Choice Award

Television Critics: Alessandra Comazzi (La Stampa), Antonio Dipollina (Repubblica), Roberto Levi (Il Giornale), Paolo Ojetti (Il Fatto Quotidiano), Mirella Poggialini (Avvenire), Norma Rangeri (Il Manifesto), Maurizio Turrioni (Famiglia Cristiana), and Giovanni Volpi (Guida TV) will select the best report among those broadcast on Italian TV channels during the year, awarding it the Critics Award worth Euro 2,000.

The winner of this section is excluded from other sections of the competition.

 

How to participate

All video entries must have been shot no later than March 2009 and, except for those running for the Production Award, must have already been broadcast.

Reports submitted not directly by their authors but by press offices may also participate.

 

All video entries must be on Betacam, DV Cam or Mini Dv and must be complete with:

  • three copies on DVD;
  • brief synopsis;
  • list of dialogues in English
  • entry form, filled in and signed; (downloading from www.premioilariaalpi.it);
  • author's curriculum vitae.

All the videos submitted for competition must be received no later than April 10, 2010 at 12:00 a.m.. Participants must also accept the clauses of the call by signing the statement of acceptance that can be found on the entry form.

Each participant can submit one video only, except for the International Report Award and the Best TV News Report Award.  Other non-competing reports can also be submitted and they may be shown out of competition during the days of the Award.

The Ilaria Alpi Television Journalist Award will be held in Riccione on 17, 18 and 19 June 2010.
